Synopsis
“The sun turns black and the earth sinks into the sea,
but then it returns, beautiful, it shines once more upon the land.”
(Völuspá, stanza 57)
The universe buckles under the weight of Ragnarök: three long winters envelop the world in freezing cold, followed by three profound conflicts that consume it until it is reduced to ashes. From the ruins of what once was, Líf and Lífthrasir awaken from their refuge among the roots of Yggdrasill, the cosmic tree that held the spark of life beyond destruction. Their path, marked by fear and uncertainty, leads them towards a future that must be rebuilt.
The two protagonists become symbols of continuity and hope.
At the heart of a fragmented universe, they demonstrate that, even when all seems lost, life can always find a new form. Thus, Líf celebrates the strength of life and its ability to overcome adversity, reminding us that after every ending there is always room for a new beginning, to be rebuilt step by step.
The project, selected for the NID Platform 2025 | Open Studios section and a finalist for the TWAIN_direzioniAltre Award, was born from the collaboration between ocram dance movement and the dancers of the Compagnia Zappalà Danza 2, giving life to a choreographic dialogue that intertwines different experiences, sensibilities and body languages.
